When to use a Project Plan

The flexibility and easy of use of a project plan means that they can be invaluable in a wide range of circumstances, for example, when running an IT project, introducing a new process or procedure in a company, building a house / extension, preparing for an audit / inspection etc.

For each of these, there is a sequence of tasks and activities, of durations and sequence that enable a project plan to be created. The project plan then aids in the delivery of the project, giving the expected completion date, allowing resources to be focused on critical tasks that will bring this finish date forward if required, or protecting it as necessary.

The plan allows progress to be tracked and the overall health of the progress to be gauged and the expected finished date updated to reflect actual progress.
